Rapid Reef: A simple solution to restore marine biodiversity

Rapid Reef is a straight out of the box, easy-deploy solution for restoring vital marine habitats. Designed for simplicity, sustainability, and measurable impact from the start, it's the smarter, easier way to restore oyster reefs.

What is Rapid Reef?

Rapid Reef is simply a populated, thriving, native oyster reef in a bag that can be delivered directly to your location, ready for you to deploy.

It eliminates the complexities and lengthy timelines of traditional restoration by settling native oyster spat on recycled shells in advance. No additional cleaning, or prep work required.

Oysters are settled on recycled shells that were destined for landfill.

Each bag is settled with ~15,000 native oysters. Enough to densly coverer ~5m² of seabed.

Our rigorous biosecurity protocols ensure that each Rapid Reef is ready to deploy via multiple methods.

Rapid Reef vs Traditional Restoration

Traditional restoration methods take time and expertise, and often involve long hours of labour hours, with an increased biosecurity risk.

Rapid Reef is rapid by name, and rapid by nature: in just 8-12 weeks the bags are ready to deploy on site, cutting out additional costs and disease risk.

How Does It Work?

1. Native oyster spat is settled on recycle shells at our biosecure hatchery.

2. Rapid Reef bags are populated within a short lead time.

3. Delivered directly to your site, ready for deployment.

4. Once deployed, reefs grow, biodiversity returns, and ecosystems thrive.

Flexible Deployment Options

Rapid Reef bags are adaptable to various marine environments and can be deployed manually or by a vessel of choice. Its modular design enables precise reef planning, making it easy to scale restoration projects of any size. Other deployment methods available at an additional cost.

Recycled shell material provides an ideal substrate for oyster spat, promoting natural reef regeneration and supporting long-term ecosystem stability. However, if other substrates are more suitable for your project, please get in touch to find out more.
